Design Basis- Pain Relief

The design of the Zero Pressure Cushion (ZPC) with respect to pain relief is based on a scientific study published in 2009 which stated “since elevated ischial tuberosity pressures are intimately associated with elevated spinal loads, a seating device which can decrease ischial tuberosity pressures may help decrease and/or prevent lower back pain (LBP).” (1.)

There are additional published studies with applicable findings that strongly support the design of the ZPC. These studies are referenced below.

Elevated pressures at the ischial tuberosities is intimately associated with elevated spinal loads. (2.) Furthermore, metabolite accumulation from static load may accelerate disc degeneration and herniation. (2)

Animal study provided evidence that sustained static load on the ligaments of the lumbar spine may result in paraspinal muscle spasm and hyperexcitability. (3.)

With respect to the above referenced studies, the ZPC does far more than decrease ischial tuberosities pressures – the ZPC eliminates ischial tuberosities pressures. The ZPC is the only pain management cushion in the industry that eliminates ischial pressures. In fact, no other pain management cushion in the industry even comes close to eliminating ischial pressures.
